For Olayemi and Olufisayo, their love story goes way back to 11 years ago when they were course mates at the University of Lagos, From being course mates to great friends and now life partners.

This is one of the easiest ‘YES’ for Olayemi and she says it to none other than the love of her life Fisayo.

After more than a decade of knowing, loving, respecting, and supporting each other, they are getting ready to walk down the aisle, we catch a glimpse of their love through their pre-wedding photos which were nothing short of alluring.

Their love story as shared by Olufisayo

“Olayemi and I met in a very cute way. Well, cute now, but at the time, it was a bit awkward. Though we’d been in the same class for about a year, we had never spoken — yes, I was reserved like that.

Back to the story.

I had just concluded my participation in a departmental pageant and I had thought I performed terribly — it was uncomfortable for me as it was my first time on that type of stage. Anyways, she reached out to me in the days after (to her, it was weeks. To me, barely 24 hours) asking to meet as she had a favor to ask. ‘First ever conversation and you’re already asking for a favor?’ I thought to myself. Nonetheless, I urged her to meet me at the faculty, as I was studying or maybe just passing time with friends. (I like the studying narrative better LOL )”

“When she came around, the first few things she said changed my view of her, and it has carried on through the 11 years I’ve known her. Without a doubt, she is the most thoughtful person I have ever known.

She told me about a friend of hers who was going through a rough time, and my pageant speech — which was centered on the power of self — could be tweaked as a note or letter of encouragement for her friend. As highly as I regarded her in the moment, I didn’t write it. I had to be a ‘tough guy’. It was all fake bravado.

However disappointing the result of our conversation was, I left that encounter with one thought — ‘Olayemi is kind’. That incident turned into a running joke in my circle, and I’d always find myself defending her. Firstly, because mental health is a serious thing, and perhaps most importantly, she was a genuinely caring person who had to be held in the highest regard.

That selflessness led to an innocent bond filled with many conversations about any and everything. That was her biggest attraction, in the end, I think. At least, I’m certain it was what sustained our friendship till we had the perfect window to intentionally explore a relationship that in a relatively short time has blossomed into our “happily ever after”.

 

Their love story as shared by Olayemi

“From the very first day I noticed Fisayo in Unilag, I felt there was something about him.

We were coursemates, and even though he joined in our second year as a diploma student, we didn’t interact much at first.

But, we had mutual friends, so we’d see each other in passing. However, it wasn’t until a departmental contest during the second semester that I noticed him. He delivered an oral presentation that got me thinking, this guy is smart (he remembers this differently)

That thought stayed with me until one day when I needed help for a friend, and his name came to mind.

We didn’t talk much after that, but there was this unspoken connection. We both knew we liked each other and kind of stayed in touch.”

“Looking back now, one of the things I think stood out to me the most was how we had ‘unhinged conversations’ from the start. We weren’t dating, and we didn’t even talk about it, but talking to him always felt so natural. We could talk or text for hours about anything, you know just lost in conversation, and it always left so good.

He would tease me whenever he got a chance and I had a feeling he was talking about me with his friends too (at this point, it was obvious he was so into me but hard guy did not let him admit it)

I guess that’s what laid the foundation for us – a genuine bond and an effortless friendship.

From the moment we met eleven years ago, something between us just felt right. It was subtle, but we knew, even back then, before we knew what it would become.

Well, fast forward to now, three amazing years together as a couple, but to be honest, if we were really to count from the very beginning, our story goes all the way back to those eleven years when he’d make fun of my sweet tooth because I always had goodies in my bag.

So our journey really did go from being coursemates to great friends and now life partners.

I like to say that his voice was what attracted me to him, but really, it’s his intelligence, his thoughtfulness, his warmheartedness, and his genuine love for me because I see it in his eyes, yes, and his actions. I could go on and on.

I’m grateful our paths crossed in Unilag. I’m thankful for the love we share. I’m excited for what the future holds because, at the end of the day, it’s us – Olayemi and Olufisayo.”
